August 7, 2022 – Jonathan Chute, “Personal Storage”
Sermon: sermon
In this week’s gospel Jesus teaches the disciples about the value of material possessions. His lesson is a simple one to understand, but somewhat harder to put into practice. He knows that his followers have the same needs as anyone else, but wants their lives to be full of those gifts that truly last.
Luke 12:22-34 is the text for Jonathan’s sermon, “Personal Storage.”

August 14, 2022 – Jonathan Chute, “Let Us Run”
Sermon: sermon
The letter to the Hebrews speaks to a time when early Christians had experienced persecution and imprisonment as a result of their faith. The writer of the letter wants to reassure fellow believers that they are in good company with faithful followers of God over the centuries. He recounts the history of God’s people, who faced and met many great challenges to their faith. He encourages those in his own time that they are following a path well worn by others, and that those same people now wait and cheer for us to complete our stage of the race. Hebrews 11:29-12:2 is the text for Jonathan’s sermon, “Let Us Run.”

August 21, 2022 – Kristin Sutrave, “In This Place”
Sermon: sermon
Our spiritual programming for this summer’s Sierra Service Project lived out the theme “in this place.” In addition to working with families, and in the community, we explored the idea of being fully present in a place: in mind, body, and spirit. This week’s gospel reading depicts Jesus living fully in the present moment. He sees a woman in need of healing and acts, relieving her of her suffering. Luke 13:10-17 is the text for Kristin’s sermon, “In This Place.” We welcome members of our SSP work team as leaders in our worship and look forward to hearing from them!

August 28, 2022 – Diane Rehfield, “Opening Doors”
Sermon: sermon
Our scripture passage comes from the Letter to the Hebrews, which urges the faithful to follow the example of Christ, showing hospitality to strangers, showing compassion to those who are in prison, and keeping their lives, our lives, free from the love of money. We are encouraged to be faithful marital partners, to encourage each other in the faith, and to praise God continually, by doing good and sharing what we have. The text for Diane’s sermon, “Opening Doors,” is Hebrews 13:1-8 and 15-16.
