In the United Methodist tradition, confirmation is an opportunity for youth to affirm the baptismal covenant and to choose for themselves to make their own professions of faith. This is an important step along a youth’s life long faith journey. A series of classes are offered, along with opportunities for mentorship and self exploration, that will prepare the youth for Confirmation Sunday.
A Confirmation Information Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 11:15 am. All interested 9th-12th grade youth, and their parents, are invited to attend. The registration form is due February 5, 2023.
Confirmation 2023:
Youth will confirm their faith and become baptized, professing members of the church during worship on Sunday, May 21, 2023 during the worship service of their choice (8:30 am, 10:00 am, or 5:30 pm).
Saturday May 7 from 11:30 – 1:00 pm, youth and parents/families will gather for brunch and a time of sharing and celebration followed by a rehearsal of the confirmation ceremony.
Classes, mentoring, and a pathway of spiritual growth will prepare each youth for Confirmation Sunday.
Required Classes:
“How to Read the Bible” with Rev. Jonathan Chute
Sunday, February 26 at 11:30am – 1:00pm at RHUMC (lunch will be served)
“What Is a Christian?” with Rev. Dr. April Herron
Sunday, March 19 at 11:30am – 1:00pm at RHUMC (lunch will be served)
“Profession of Faith” with Rev. Kristin Sutrave
Sunday, April 23 at 11:30am – 1:00pm at RHUMC (lunch will be served)
Mentoring:
Youth will hear from congregation members who will share about their faith journeys at the beginning of each class. Kristin, the Director of Youth Ministries, will be in weekly contact with youth to track progress and to offer support and guidance throughout the process. Youth are encouraged to interview other adults in their lives about their faith journeys as well.
Spiritual Growth:
Each young person’s pathway will be unique and can be tailored to interests and schedule. Guidance will be provided by a point system. Each member of the confirmation group needs to document their pathway, either by keeping a written log or by sending a selfie to Kristin at the completion of each chosen activity. Please consult with Rev. Kristin Sutrave or Rev. April Herron along the way with questions or needs for assistance.
