This week’s scripture shares a poignant moment near the end of the life of Moses. After years of wandering in the desert the people are at last ready to enter the Promised Land. But Moses will not get to go with them. Though he devoted his life to the freedom and future of the people of Israel, the closest he will come is the view God shows him from the top of Mount Nebo. The text for Jonathan’s sermon is Deuteronomy 34:1-12, “The View from Mount Nebo.”
It’s also Celebration Sunday, giving thanks for the mission God invites us to share with the world around us. We invite you to share the amount of giving you plan for the coming year. At the end of each service we will pass out Giving Cards to fill them out. Those who do so may bring your card to the basket at the front of the sanctuary as an act of worship. No one is required to fill out a Giving Card. But it helps us to develop a generous and hopeful budget for the coming year. After worship we head over to Wesley Hall for a delicious Celebration Brunch after each morning service, and to Celebration Tacos after 3rd service. It’s a day to enjoy the community and friendship we share, and to give thanks for the grace of God in our lives. All are welcome!
We will also gather on Saturday morning, October 28, for the Memorial Service for Jack Bryant. Jack and Peggy, his late wife, were active in the life and leadership of our congregation for many years. Jack served as Lay Leader for a decade or more, and served a key role in the building of the current sanctuary and office buildings. His leadership of the membership welcome gatherings helped bring hundreds of people into the life of the congregation over the years. We will gather to give thanks for his life at 11 a.m.
See you in church!
