If you have ever longed to hear the words, “I am here with you, do not be afraid,” you will be glad to listen to this Sunday’s scripture passage. We will be reading from John’s gospel (John 6:10-21) which, after describing an astonishing picnic for a very large crowd, makes note that Jesus was not interested in fame or in wielding the kind of power associated with tyrannical kings. To avoid the misguided intentions of the mob, Jesus slips away by himself. Hours pass and the disciples finally decide to return to the other side of the sea without their master. What happens next is both startling and comforting. April’s sermon title is, “Faster Than You Can Row.”
As July 29 is a fifth Sunday, we’ll be enjoying donut holes in the morning and Taco Night after 3rd Service. The evening meal is “all you can eat” for a $5 donation or $15 per family. As 3rd Service ends, either before or after you eat (or instead of eating!) we would be grateful for your help with some set-up and decorating tasks in preparation for Vacation Bible Camp. VBC starts on Monday morning, and we are eager for the kids to be warmly welcomed into a well prepared environment.
One last happy note is that at 3rd Service (5:30 pm) we will share in the joy of baptizing Leah Randle, the nine-month-old daughter of Brenn and Sandi, and younger sister of Brooke and Blake. It is good to gather with friends in the grace of God.
See you in church!
