It is the Sunday of the Transfiguration, and this week’s gospel describes one of the most mysterious events in the life of Jesus. He takes three of the disciples with him to the top of a mountain. Once there, his appearance changes dramatically. His clothes turn a bright white, and Moses and Elijah suddenly appear beside him. Peter sees them talking. But he cannot understand what is going on. Then a cloud overshadows them all and God’s voice speaks from the cloud. Afterward Jesus orders them not to tell anyone what they have seen. The text for Jonathan’s sermon, “Preserving the Memory,” is Mark 9:2-9.
It’s also Scout Sunday, so we’ll be joined by the boys of Troop 783 and their families. The service will open with the presentation of the colors, the Scout oath and law, and the Pledge of Allegiance. Lots of our church family have been part of the Scouting movement, including a number of Eagle Scouts. We are fortunate to be able to support the growth and development of so many young people over the years. Cubs, Webelos, Brownies and Girl Scouts are also welcome!
After 3rd service, don’t forget our second sunday supper, featuring El Pollo Loco chicken, rice & beans, salad and a drink for just $5/person or $15/family! We hope you can stay a while.
