Trinity Sunday
5/30/10 – Jonathan Chute – “Here, There and Everywhere”

Sermon – Here, There and Everywhere

Psalm 8: There is nothing beyond the reach of God’s grace, from the greatness of the galaxies to the smallest living creature. God as active from the beginning of the universe, devoted to its redemption, and woven into the fabric of every living (and even non-living) thing.

Scripture – Psalm 8

Pentacost
5/23/10 – John Kwan – “Lost in Translation”

Sermon – Lost in Translation

Acts 2: 1-13. Jews from every nation have gathered for the Feast of Weeks – originally celebrated seven weeks after the beginning of the grain harvest and later became Pentecost as it was celebrated 50 days after Passover. The disciples have gathered among the people for Pentecost when they receive an amazing gift that can unite all of humanity once again if only the people have the ears to hear.

Scripture – Acts 2: 1-13

5/16/10 – Jonathan Chute – “Stay and Go”

Sermon – Stay and Go

Luke 24: 44-53. This week’s gospel tells of Jesus’ departure from the disciples, some forty days after Easter. Jesus confirms that his death and resurrection are not the completion of God’s promise of life, but its beginning. What they have seen and learned will be their foundation, but the future will take them even further – down roads they have yet to see or imagine.

Scripture – Luke 24: 44-53

5/09/10 – Jonathan Chute – “Home Away From Home”

Sermon – Home Away From Home

Acts 16: 9-15. When the Apostle Paul comes to Philippi he discovers possibilities for outreach he had never imagined. He meets a woman named Lydia, a dealer in fine cloth, who discovers a sense of welcome and home in his message, and in return offers hospitality to Paul and his companions. They are far away from home, but find welcome in a most unexpected place.

Scripture – Acts 16: 9-15

5/02/10 – Jonathan Chute – “Outside, In”

Sermon – Outside, In

Acts 11: 1-18. In this Sunday’s scripture we see Peter defending himself before the Church leaders back in Jerusalem. During his travels he had been eating and speaking with gentiles, and word has gotten back of this unprecedented breaking of the rules. Peter tells them about a strange dream he had, and how he became convinced that the message of Christ was for all people, not just some.

Scripture – Acts 11: 1-18
