Acts 2: 1-13. Jews from every nation have gathered for the Feast of Weeks – originally celebrated seven weeks after the beginning of the grain harvest and later became Pentecost as it was celebrated 50 days after Passover. The disciples have gathered among the people for Pentecost when they receive an amazing gift that can unite all of humanity once again if only the people have the ears to hear.

Luke 24: 44-53. This week’s gospel tells of Jesus’ departure from the disciples, some forty days after Easter. Acts 16: 9-15. When the Apostle Paul comes to Philippi he discovers possibilities for outreach he had never imagined. They are far away from home, but find welcome in a most unexpected place.

Acts 11: 1-18. In this Sunday’s scripture we see Peter defending himself before the Church leaders back in Jerusalem. During his travels he had been eating and speaking with gentiles, and word has gotten back of this unprecedented breaking of the rules. Peter tells them about a strange dream he had, and how he became convinced that the message of Christ was for all people, not just some.
