June 7, 2026 – Jonathan Chute, “The God of Interruptions”

In this week’s gospel we see Jesus encouraging people with a variety of needs. He shares a meal with a group of outcasts – tax collectors and other sinners – and makes it clear that God’s love extends to them, perhaps even more than to those who are righteous. He hears the plea of a desperate father and goes to restore the man’s daughter to life. As Jesus follows him home, a woman who has been ill for many years reaches out, touches his cloak and is healed. It seems that wherever he goes people are seeking health and hope – whether that was part of his plans or not. Matthew 9:9-13, and 18-26 is the text for Jonathan’s sermon, “The God of Interruptions.”

June 14, 2026 – Jonathan Chute, “Entourage”

In this week’s gospel Jesus sends his disciples out into the surrounding communities, to carry out the work he has been doing for some time. People’s hopes have been stirred by his ministry, so there is now much more to do. Jesus gathers and authorizes them to offer healing and help to those who are lost. Proclaiming the kingdom is one thing. Making it a reality in people’s lives will take a team. Matthew 9:35-10:8 is the text for Jonathan’s sermon, “Entourage.”

June 21, 2026 – April Herron, “Evidence of Love”

On Father’s Day, we will be reading a section of Paul’s letter to the Romans. Paul has written to a group he has not met in person. He is eager to help them understand the magnitude of God’s grace. We who know we are loved by God always have hope, proclaims Paul. God’s love does not depend on our behavior; it is born of God’s faithfulness toward us. The scripture text is Romans 5:1-8. April’s sermon title is, “Evidence of Love.”

In this week’s gospel Jesus encourages his followers for the work that lies ahead. He wants them to know that they do not go into the world alone, and that those who welcome them in his name receive him too.
