Behold the Dreamers was Imbolo Mbue’s debut novel, published in 2016. It became a New York Times bestseller and won the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction. The novel tells the story of a family that comes to the United States from Cameroon, finds work and a place to live in New York, and then, along with everyone else in the city, is caught at the epicenter of the financial crisis of 2008.
Behold the Dreamers “struck me as a fresh take on the immigrant experience – providing not simply the jolt of being in a new place but also the jolt of taking on a new identity because of that place.” – Cristina Henríquez for the New York Times
