8/31/14 – Jonathan Chute – “Worth Doing”
Sermon: Jonathan Chute
Our scripture this week tells the story of Moses’ encounter with God in the wilderness of Midian. Having fled for his life from Egypt, Moses has married and begun a family in a new land. He is tending his father in law’s sheep in the mountains when he sees something that catches his attention – a bush that is burning, but not burning up. As he goes to look closer, he hears a voice. It turns out that God has something new for Moses to do with his life.

8/17/14 – Doug Dickson – “Caught by Surprise?”
Sermon: – Doug Dickson
Our understanding of why and when and how God acts in our lives, especially when it comes to our prayers for healing and deliverance from life’s trials, is often sketchy at best. When the apostle Paul wrote, “we see as in a mirror dimly,” he was right on. In our scripture reading, Jesus hesitates to heal the daughter of a non-Jewish woman. Yet the woman persists in her faith and her wish for her daughter is provided. What do you wish for? What petition do you take to God? How persistent are you in your prayer? The Scripture this Sunday is Matthew 15:20-28, and Doug’s sermon title is “Caught by Surprise?”

8/10/14 – Jonathan Chute – “Back in the Boat”
Sermon: Jonathan Chute
The same evening after the feeding of the multitude Jesus sent the disciples by boat ahead of him to the other side of the sea. Later that night he caught up with them, walking across the water. When they saw him in the darkness they were terrified, convinced that he was a ghost. Jesus spoke to them and calmed their fears. But Peter wanted proof that it really was Jesus. He stepped out of the boat, testing both his own faith and the truth of Christ’s words.

8/03/14 – Jonathan Chute – “All You Can Eat”
Sermon: Jonathan Chute
Our gospel for this Sunday tells of Jesus’ response to a hungry crowd that has followed him out into the desert. When his disciples express concern, he tells them, “You give them something to eat.” In the midst of what seems like great scarcity, generosity and abundance overflow.
