Worship Service: 7:30 pm

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, the season of 40 days leading up to the celebration of Christ’s resurrection. Originally, Lent was a time of fasting and preparation for converts, who were typically baptized on Easter Sunday. What began as a time of study and prayer, confession and repentance for new Christians became a season of reflection and renewal throughout the community of faith. The practice of “giving something up” for Lent became a way to share in the suffering which Christ undertook on behalf of humanity. The use of ashes as a sign of repentance and humility was an ancient practice among the people of Israel. Its adoption for use in the observance of Lent took place early in Christian history.
The Ash Wednesday service will take place at 7:30 p.m. It will include readings, prayers and music, bringing candles to the altar as a sign of our prayers, and the imposition of ashes on the forehead or the back of a hand, as you are comfortable. You are invited to join with members and friends of our church family as we begin this season of grace.
