This Sunday’s gospel tells of an encounter between Jesus and another leader of the Jewish community, a legal scholar. He is interested in what Jesus might have to say about God’s law. He asks, “Which is the most important commandment?” Jesus answers the man’s question and leaves him with something more to ponder. The lawyer agrees with Jesus about the core of Jewish teaching and life. And Jesus commends him for his understanding. Mark 12:28-34 is the text for Jonathan’s sermon, “Two for One.”
It’s also Celebration Sunday, when we give thanks for the opportunity to make a difference in the world around us! We invite you to help shape our mission for the coming year. At the end of each service we will hand out Giving Cards, on which you are invited to share your giving intentions for 2019. Then we will bring our cards to a basket at the front of the sanctuary as an offering to God. No one is required to fill out a card. But it helps us to develop a generous and hopeful budget for the coming year. After worship we’ll then head over to Wesley Hall for a delicious Celebration Brunch after each morning service, and to Celebration Tacos after 3rd service. The food will be delicious, and the company even better. It’s a day to celebrate the community we share, and to give thanks for the grace of God in our lives. All are welcome!
