This week’s scripture tells what happens to the disciples when the Holy Spirit comes to them on the feast of Pentecost. Along with other Jews from around the world they are in Jerusalem for this special celebration. When the Spirit arrives it looks like tongues of fire and sounds like a rushing wind. But what it does to those present is even more remarkable. The text for the day is Acts 2:1-18. Jonathan’s sermon title is “For English, Press 1.”
Don’t forget to wear red, orange or yellow as a symbol of the Holy Spirit, which appeared to the disciples that day as tongues of flame. If everyone did that, who knows? We could catch fire!
We’ll also give thanks for the Spirit’s movement among 9 of our youth, as they celebrate their confirmation. We will be receiving some at each of our services, so look forward to welcoming these newest members of our church family!
And of course we will join in the sacrament of communion, the meal of grace and hope which Jesus shared with his first followers. As always, the table is open to all, without reservation.
See you at church!
